Engines get hot during operation, and that is normal. Although, eventually they get too hot and overheat. Intense heat from the sun while driving, setting your AC on max and towing can be a huge factor to this. Are you aware of what to do when it your engine is overheating?

Internal parts, the engine block or the cylinder tends to break when your engine is overheated. Automobiles have a dashboard gauge or warning light that shows the engine’s coolant temperature. Here are tips to help you solve and prevent overheating engines.
Steps on How to Solve Overheating
  1. Pull Over
Before anything else, you should find a safe place to stop immediately. Pull over to the side of the road so you can take action right away.

  2. Open the Hood
To cool down your engine completely, popping the hood works. But do be careful. If the engine is steaming, do not open it by hand. Wait for at least thirty minutes before opening the hood.

  3. Check the Coolant
After waiting for the engine to cool down, you can move on to inspect the tank which contains the coolant. An empty tank can mean that it's leaking. You can confirm this by checking under the car. If you find a drip or puddle move on to the next step.

Otherwise, you might be dealing with an electrical or mechanical issue. In this case, you need professionals to help you fix it.

  4. Adding Antifreeze
Adding antifreeze can solve your overheating problem if you have a low amount of coolant in your tank. You do have to make sure that your engine block has cooled down before performing this step.

Place a damp cloth over the radiator cap and twist counterclockwise to open it. Next, pour the antifreeze or coolant into the radiator. Put back the cap into the radiator.

How to Prevent Overheating
  • Keep driving at constant speed.
  • Always store antifreeze in your car.
  • Check the amount of coolant before driving.
  • Make sure to check your radiator cap as well.
  • Clean your AC condenser.
  • Inspect and use belt dressing on your engine belts.

Learning how to solve and prevent car problems is of utmost importance in taking care of your car and knowing what to do in case of an emergency. The rising temperature of the dog days comes with different risks for the speed machine. Overheating is that kind of issue- if you leave it unfixed, then it will kill your vehicle completely. So, it should not be taken lightly. Overheating is not just due to the hot weather. There are a lot of causes your speed machine may be overheating. Steam comes out of the hood, when vehicle's engine gets overheated. Turn-off the AC immediately, roll down the windows, and turn on the defroster, if your intermediary is overheating.
