Tips To Be A Safe Motorcycle Rider

Riding your motorcycle in traffic is not a walk in the park. You have to be vigilant of everyone and everything around you. One wrong move can lead to tragedy.

Here are pieces of advice to ride your motorcycle safely.

1. Do Not Get Between A Vehicle And An Off-Ramp
   One cause of road accidents is drivers who decide to exit or take a turn at the last minute. Never position yourself between a ride and an off-ramp.  If you have to pass on the right, do so between cross streets or exits.
   
   
2. Ready Your Brakes
   In a road full of hurrying drivers, you must react quickly. Always keep your hand ready for the brake lever and your toe close to the pedal brake. There is no time to fumble when someone cuts you.
   
   
3. Be Visible to Other Drivers
   Do not go for the all-black attire. Wear colored gears and make sure that even at a distance, drivers and pedestrians can see you.
   
   
4. Practice Scanning Your Environment
   Be aware and in check of the situation - your mirrors, blind spots, and the road left and right. This practice keeps you ready; therefore, you can react better.
   
   
5. Watch Heads And Mirror Of Other Drivers
   Anticipate abrupt movements by observing other drivers on the road. This would give you a clue even if they do not check their mirrors as often as you do.
   
   
6. Be Power-Ready
   In traffic, ride a gear lower so you would be ready to move forward. You could also alert other drivers of your presence with your higher revs.
   
   
7. Stay On The Sides
   Stay on the left or right of the vehicle in your front when traffic slows down. Doing this is your escape route, should you need one. Once you have halted, be ready – clutch in, make sure bike is in gear, and your eyes in your mirror. This can stop a possible car-motorcycle-car sandwich if the driver behind does not stop.
   
   
8. Observe The Surface
   Keep an eye for slippery roads, gravel, or sand. It would also be wise to use your sense of smell to detect fuel or oil spills that would be hard to see.

These are not all the guidelines you can follow to drive safely, but this would be a good start for both beginner and seasoned riders.
